Champion Schools

The Musical Futures Champion Schools network exists to promote, nurture and develop best Musical Futures practice.

MF Champion Schools are located around England. They have adopted and applied MF independently, and have found interesting, often innovative ways of furthering and developing the approaches.

MF Champions run training and CPD sessions for others interested in finding out more about Musical Futures, work with us to develop new resources and projects, and link with local initial teacher training providers and other music/arts organisations.

Champion Schools: Expectations

To be a MF Champion, schools need to be able to demonstrate that:

  • MF isn't run as a scheme of work or a short 'project', but that it is an ethos that underpins everything a music department does
  • MF is applied in all sorts of music teaching situations, at all key stages
  • They recognise the need to always challenge themselves with MF, to re-evaluate it, to develop and change it based on the young people they are working with

Young Champions

Musical Futures also runs a MF Young Champions programme for young people. Students in Musical Futures schools are asked to mentor, coach, and provide advice, guidance and support to students in other schools. Click here for further details on our Young Champions programme.

Musical Futures is continuing to expand the Champion Schools network. If you feel that your school has something to offer in terms of training, CPD or local advocacy, please contact Safiya Juma, Musical Futures Administrator, email musicalfutures@phf.org.uk for an application form.
