Just how do you introduce Musical Futures and make it work for you and your students? This professional development training is open to all teachers in the East of England but is free for all teachers teaching within a Norfolk school.

In partnership with

Musical Futures is working in partnership with Norfolk Music Hub to offer FREE Musical Futures professional development training to all teachers and trainee teachers teaching in Academies and maintained schools within Norfolk.

Teachers in Norfolk schools or independent schools are welcome to attend – usual ticket prices will apply.

The training will explore key aspects of the pedagogy and the practicalities required to introduce Musical Futures into your teaching:

Just Play: Musical Futures approach to developing whole class instrumental skills

Find Your Voice: Learn how to break down a piece of music vocally using a practical, hands-on, inclusive approach for engaging students of all ages with singing.

Songwriting:  designed to support teachers and students with songwriting, exploring ideas, lyrics and music.

Aims of the course

  • Explore the rationale and structure of Musical Futures pedagogy 
  • Experience the classroom from a students perspective to fully understand both the opportunities and challenges of the approaches.
  • Develop practical ways to move from a teacher to facilitator in your classroom.

Sessions

Just Play 

  • Building Skills: Explore how to develop instrumental skills in a whole class setting on ukulele, guitar, keyboards, bass and drums.  Develop an understanding of how this approach can foster outstanding learning in your own classroom.
  • Performing: Have a go at performing a range of current popular songs at different levels and look at how performances can be used to measure progress.

Find Your Voice: 

  • A series of activities that warm-up and explore the voice, moving onto how students can recreate and create music that they like and identify with.

Songwriting:

  • Getting started with lyrics
  • Adding lyrics to music
  • Putting together the components of the song
  • Performance and recording
