Tech Champion Teacher Report Released

31st July 2020

Tech Champion Teacher

We are excited to share the report released today by Dr Pete Dale from Manchester Metropolitan University, who has led the evaluation of our 18 month Tech Champion Teacher project in partnership with Ableton. The project has seen 10 schools supplied with software and hardware by Ableton, with training and resource development led by the Musical Futures team.

The report found that music technology can boost the numbers of students that study music. Some of the schools had close to 50% of a year group selecting Music and/or Music Technology GCSE or BTEC. Teachers also reported that students with poor behaviour showed better engagement through the use of music technology.

In addition to collaboration amongst the teachers, the project also incorporated ‘Play Learn Live’, an event in February that brought together over 100 students who performed at Spirit Studios in Manchester in addition to accessing workshops led by Spirit tutors and students.

Our Tech Champion Teachers have been amazing in contributing to the project and we are looking forwards to working with them again once Schools fully reopen in September.
