How long have you been working with Musical Futures?
I have been teaching using a Musical Futures style approach since my second placement school in 2010, and started working directly with Musical Futures and following the Just Play and Everyone Can Play schemes in 2018. We secured Musical Futures Champion School and Champion Teacher status in 2019.
What do you do?
I’m a Primary and Secondary trained Music and Music Technology teacher who co-ordinates Monksdown Primary School’s Music Curriculum.
What is your background?
I began my musical career as a singer and violinist in Junior School, and as I grew up had the pleasure of becoming Head Chorister in my local church choir, and later joining the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Choir. I developed my Music Technology, Piano and Musical Theater skills during my secondary school and university years, where I also sang with the Liverpool Hope University Chamber Choir. After leaving Hope University with a BA Hons in Music, Popular Music and Music Technology, along with a Secondary Music PGCE, I joined (and still play in) Liverpool Hope University Concert Band as a drummer and percussionist. It was during my previous school before Monksdown that I was given a ukulele and told I was taking the ukulele club two weeks later, and so developed a love of ukulele… very quickly!
