The British School in the Netherlands

The British School in the Netherlands (the BSN) is located in The Hague, in the heart of the Netherlands. We have three Junior School campuses for children aged 3-11 and two Senior School campuses for our older students aged 11-18.

All five of our schools share a British curriculum and the Senior School offers a choice between International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes and A Level examinations. As an ‘Internationally British’ school, we are enriched by a hugely diverse community composed of over 80+ nationalities. We welcome children and young people from all corners of the globe – encouraging cultural connections both in and outside our classrooms.

Music is taught by specialist teachers from the moment the children start school and it soon forms an integral part of school life. Students of all ages have the opportunity to become involved in choirs, orchestras, bands and ensembles, with regular concerts being organised to enable students to perform. Each junior school has acoustically designed music rooms and an impressive range of musical instruments and equipment at their disposal. We have an extensive Lunch and After School Music Club programme at each school offering activities as varied as Djembe, Samba, School of Rock, Musical Theatre, Cross School Choir, Jazz and Orchestra.  We applied to become a Musical Futures Champion School in June 2018 after following an intensive 2 days of Musical Futures workshops with Fran Hannan for the entire staff of the BSN.

Senior School students benefit from an extensive music technology suite – with individual terminals and keyboards for composition and music technology work, a modern fully equipped recording studio and practice rooms for instrumental teaching. All students in Years 7 to 9 receive music lessons and a considerable number then elect to continue with the subject for GCSE and beyond.
