What do you do?

I’m Head of Department at Castleford Academy, Wakefield.  I also hold the SSAT Lead Practitioner Accreditation.

What is your background?

I studied Music at Sussex University and was fortunate enough to gain performance tuition at the Guildhall School of Music in London. My main instrument is saxophone and I currently play with Leeds Jazz Orchestra. After leaving university I worked in Sports Marketing for several years before deciding on a career change to teaching, completing my teacher training in Suffolk before relocating to Leeds to work at my current school. Changing careers to teaching was the best decision I ever made – I love that my job enables me to play music all day every day!

What are you most looking forward to working with Musical Futures on this programme?

I am looking forward to being able to offer my students even wider access to technology. I’m particularly excited about the ‘live’ element and being able to incorporate tech performances into our live shows.

Five Words that sum up Musical Futures

Engaging, Active, Innovative, Inclusive, Practical

What music are you listening to at the moment?

Frank Turner, Charles Mingus, James Blake – bit of everything really!
