How long have you been working with Musical Futures?

I first got involved with Musical Futures in Leeds back in 2010 when I worked with Musical Futures Manging Director, Fran Hannan on a Gifted and Talented Y8 project with Pop Practitioners. The project was an enormous success; it raised the profile of music within the school with the outcome of many more of our students taking up Music at GCSE level and beyond. Musical Futures has been a massive part of my teaching ever since because everyone loves it!

What do you do?

I’ve been Head of Music at two enormous schools in Leeds and Bradford (the latter has about 2000 students).  I recently moved to Immanuel College, also in Bradford, and am loving introducing our students to Musical Futures!

What is your background?

I’m a jack of all trades; I studied for a BA Hons at Cardiff University as first study Piano but I’ve been the Drummer in a Rock Band, First Flute in an Orchestra, a Soloist in a Gospel Choir and Bassist in a Covers Band.

Five Words that sum up Musical Futures

Fun, Current, Imaginative, Exciting, Inclusive.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

I have a really open mind about Music and love everything from Arctic Monkeys (good Yorkshire lads) to Smetana but in the words of Joan Jett, “I love Rock n Roll”; give me a good, chunky guitar solo all day long.
