Find Your Voice

An approach to whole class singing using vocals and technology

Overview

Find Your Voice is our approach to making the most of voices and technology within the classroom.  Teachers who aren’t vocalists can often lack the confidence to lead singing.  This course is designed to provide innovative ways to overcome that barrier, with the support of technology and the use of our Find Your Voice resource, which makes use of professional vocalists as your classroom co-vocal tutor!

The course content can be used to influence lessons at Key Stage 3 and 4, or is also ideal for those teachers looking to develop extra-curricular choirs or vocal groups within school.

Aims of the Course

  • Understand how to deliver outstanding lessons that are rooted in active music making
  • Develop your confidence in leading singing with young people
  • Learn how to integrate readily available mobile technology to engage students
  • Explore authentic ways to teach body percussion and beatboxing (no boots and cats!)

Sessions

Using Technology: Explore how technology can provide a ‘way in’ to students using their voices in a positive, supportive way.

Building Skills: Experience first hand how the Find Your Voice resource can develop confidence in vocal work

Creating: Have a go at working in groups to create a performance by layering multiple songs together to create unique vocal performances.

Practical advice

This was a fantastic day, giving me lots of ideas and reinvigorated how I approach things. It will influence our schemes of work and how they are delivered massively right from Year 7 upwards.

Highly recommended

Great to work on the ideas practically and try out all the examples as a "student". Lots of ideas to introduce a more practical approach to whole class teaching in KS3 and at GCSE
