Torquay Academy, Torquay
Sarah
What do you do?
I am currently Head of Creative Arts at Torquay Academy and I am proud to say Musical Futures underpins every inch of the department! MF is in the heart and soul of all our students and staff (who couldn’t imagine teaching music in any other way!). It is what makes our department the vibrant hub of our school where all our students celebrate success, and many have had life changing experiences. As a Champion School we have been privileged to provide training and shared our practice to many music educators and institutions throughout the South West, enabling MF to positively change the lives of 1000s more young young people. Before joining Torquay Academy I was Head of Music at Tavistock College where we were also a Champion School. MF was absolutely instrumental in transforming the department and engaging hundreds of previously disengaged students in not only music but in school life in general!
What is your background?
I play the piano and flute, initially from a classical background, which has become more contemporary over time!
