Overview

This one-hour online session offers an introduction to teaching the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice through a practical, student-centred approach. Designed as an accessible overview, it will introduce the structure and key features of the qualification, highlight important considerations around delivery and assessment, and explore how Musical Futures approaches can support engaging, inclusive teaching. This online training also acts as an introduction to the full-day course, where delegates will have the opportunity to experience practical ways to teach BTEC in greater depth

Aims of the Course

  • Gain an overview of the BTEC Tech Award in Music Practice, including its core components and the role of practical learning in successful delivery.
  • Explore how Musical Futures approaches can be used to support engagement, accessibility and authentic musical learning at KS4.
  • Discuss practical ways to develop students’ knowledge, skills and creativity through performance, composition and production activities.
  • Introduce key ideas around course delivery and assessment, helping teachers identify next steps for further planning or professional development.
