Attention secondary music teachers in Norfolk!

Musical Futures and Norfolk Music Hub are working in partnership to deliver a year of professional development, *FREE* to all secondary music teachers in Norfolk.

The Musical Futures Norfolk programme will show how adopting Musical Futures approaches can help to:

• address issues of transition
• provide practical ideas for how to deliver the new GCSE specifications
• fresh ideas for composing, improvising and songwriting
• workshop new ideas for inclusive extra – curricular music in school
• increase numbers taking Music beyond KS3
• get more students taking instrumental lessons
• Increase participation in concerts and performances
• Improve engagement with classroom music with ideas for your transition day, starting with Y7 then moving onto approaches and ideas for KS3 and KS4 music.

The programme will be led by Musical Futures Champion teachers Fiona Sexton and Kitt Garner and will consist of 3 full day practical workshops, collaborative planning, discussion and an opportunity for students to take part in a day of music making and performance at the end of the year.

All training and resources are free to teachers in Norfolk.

Training day 1: Just Play and Find Your Voice
Just Play is the new skills-building approach from Musical Futures. Find Your Voice is an approach to vocal work and mobile technology. Both are perfect ways to get Year 7 off to a rocking start.

Training day 2: Composing and Improvising
The Musical Futures approach to Composing and Improvising gives students the skills needed to tackle the demands of the new GCSE specs unit and is delivered in practical ways that are musical as well as theoretical. There is also a chance to explore new resources for song writing that can be used with classes of any age.

Training day 3: Informal learning and On Cue
Informal learning is a model of self-directed learning that aims to enhance student motivation, enjoyment and skill-acquisition in music lessons by tapping into the real-life learning practices of popular musicians. Unpick how this works in practice before we move onto OnCue, the new Musical Futures approach to creative music-making. New resources combined with non-formal pedagogies (and practices) make OnCue suitable for use with any ensemble.
