Luke Kemmett

The British School in the Netherlands, Den Haag

How long have you been working with Musical Futures?

I’ve been teaching using the Musical Futures approach for 17 years! I was introduced to it as a NQT and have used the approach in two International schools

What do you do?

I’m currently Head of Music at the Senior School Leidschenveen campus of The British School in the Netherlands

What is your background?

I am a Guitarist, Pianist and Songwriter. I studied Music at school and did some Music composition/history courses at University in Norwich and Philadelphia. After leaving university I joined a number of function bands and after working for a year as an English teacher in Austria, I was inspired to combine my two loves (Teaching and Music) so I enrolled in a PGCE Secondary Music course. I have taught secondary/primary Music for nearly 10 years, writing Music and performing in bands in my spare time.

Five Words that sum up Musical Futures

Engaging, Inspiring, Progressive, Relevant, Rewarding!

What music are you listening to at the moment?

Lots! I’ve been listening recently to the Hives, Olivia Dean, CMAT and ROSALÍA’s new albums, alongside last year’s Fontaines DC, Nubya Garcia, IDLES and Ezra Collective albums. I have also been going through Shostakovich’s symphonies.
