How long have you been working with Musical Futures?
I have been using Musical futures since qualifying as a teacher in 2015 in a number of settings including international schools. The informal approach and recent resources have allowed students access to music that may not have had the same level of experience of their peers.
All year groups within my school use the Musical Futures approach, which currently has 1250 students. We have explored musical futures’ resources across the trust and are moving towards these pedagogies as a MAT. This will impact around 13,000 students during their KS3 time within a BET school.
Our metacognition strategy aligns heavily with Musical Futures’ values and vision. Alongside this drive towards independent learning our curriculum has embedded just play, and everyone can play resources into our programmes of study. Our digital strategy has also started embedding some technological units into our curriculum.
The delivery of vocational courses at KS4 allows for more Musical Futures approaches to be adopted and we are also exploring how informal pedagogies can impact learning for the courses with a more Western classical focus.
