How long have you been using Musical Futures?
I have been using Musical Futures since I began my PGCE in 2009. As part of my training programme I was based in Champion School ‘Forest Hill’ l in Lewisham. This experience completely shaped my teaching practise and I began to follow Musical Futures closely. I applied for the ‘Find Your Voice’ Pilot in 2013 in which I was successful. Since then I have been an advocate for Musical Futures, working on various CPD programmes alongside Musical Futures staff, hosting training sessions at Castle Rock High School, leading and participating in #mufuChat and promoting the work of Musical Futures with Leicestershire Schools Music Service and other Leicestershire Music teachers at various network meetings. I am currently a
Champion Teacher for Musical Futures and often host visits from teachers from across the country.
How many students do you currently use Musical Futures with?
I currently use Musical Futures across the entire Music Curriculum at Castle Rock High School (approximately 600 students). This year I have taken Musical Futures into our feeder primary school, which has recently become part of our MAT, as I have used ‘JustPlay’ resources with Year 6 students for a term. Next year I will be working with both Year 10 and 11 students where I plan to continue to use Musical Futures.
What is your professional experience?
I have experience in leading training, both for Musical Futures and Leicestershire Schools Music Service. I have been working closely with staff at the feeder primary school to enhance their Music provision and I have led various CPD sessions at Castle Rock High School for its staff. I currently plan and lead the entire curriculum for Music at Castle Rock High School and have written schemes for Leicestershire Schools Music Service to use with other teachers across the county. In my role of ‘Head of Faculty’ I have leadership experience of leading and managing Music as well as Dance, Drama and Art and Design.
